About Cambridge
The Cambridge AICE Diploma is made up of individual Cambridge International AS & A Levels, which are widely recognised by universities and employers around. Students can be confident that their qualifications will be understood and valued throughout their education and career, in their home country and internationally.
By demanding knowledge from three different subject groups, plus the core compulsory subject, Cambridge International AS Level Global Perspectives & Research, the Cambridge AICE Diploma provides a broad curriculum with a balance of maths and science, languages, arts and humanities, and interdisciplinary subjects. It maintains flexibility and choice by allowing students to choose subjects at different levels.
The Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) is an international diploma that students can earn via an advanced academic curriculum and assessment program written and administered by a non-profit department (CIE) of the University of Cambridge in England. The Cambridge AICE Diploma was first awarded in 1997 and has since become popular with a range of schools in different parts of the world. It offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to their individual interests, abilities, and future plans within an international curriculum framework. Earning an AICE Diploma provides students with college credit for their courses and qualifies them for the Florida Academic Bright Futures Scholarship.
Students who earn the AICE Diploma Award from Cambridge, and have 100 community service hours logged, automatically qualify for the Florida Academic Scholars Award (highest level) of the Bright Futures Scholarship Program (SAT/ACT score and GPA requirements are waived).
Cambridge begins the process of verifying AICE Diploma Awards and communicates this information to the Florida Bright Futures office in August of each year. Cambridge works with the Bright Futures office to process any Class of 2024 graduating students who received their AICE Diploma in previous years (ADIPs completed in 2022-2023). By August 20, Cambridge will send the Bright Futures office an updated list of successful AICE Diploma candidates from the June 2024 series (students completing their ADIPs after May 2024 testing).
Typically, the Bright Futures office will process all information from Cambridge within two weeks of receipt. A student’s scholarship status will then be updated in a database accessed by Florida colleges and universities for calculating tuition fees due on the last day of registration drop/add. If necessary, students can tell the financial aid office at their university that they are a pending AICE Diploma graduate and request a deferment on their fall tuition due date.
Please note, Cambridge cannot send a list of AICE Diploma recipients before the end of a student’s senior year. The Bright Futures office does not attach eligibility information to a student’s record until they receive a final high school transcript showing that the student has completed high school and has graduated.
As a reminder, the student must complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA). Additionally, the student's final transcript must include their completed community service or work hours as required by the Florida DOE for the Florida Academic Scholars Award, as well as their graduation date.
Transcripts
As of March 1, students can submit a single transcript request for results from both the upcoming June 2024 series and all past series for $17 per institution, with the Grade Transcript Service. Past series’ transcripts are sent within 14 days after payment is received. Pre-ordered grade transcripts are sent within 14 days of results release day.
Students place transcript orders via Grade Transcript Service and use their account to:
Track the status of all transcript requests; including payment and delivery to institutions
See when institutions can access their digital transcripts
View the grades sent with each transcript request
When should students request transcripts?
Students should check with colleges and universities directly. Institutions generally request that students send only a single official transcript with all results after the student has matriculated to (been accepted to and committed to) the institution, because the exam grade transcript is used to determine the appropriate credit and course placement by the registrar.
How can students pay?
Students can pay the $17 fee for each transcript request, per institution, online by Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
Order transcripts at Grade Transcripts. Please allow up to 14 days for colleges/universities to receive your transcripts.
Cambridge Exam Day
Cambridge International Exams establishes all exam dates. Lemon Bay High School has no control over testing dates and Cambridge does not allow for make-up testing. In some cases, students may be scheduled for two or three exams on the same day. It is imperative that you are present for all of your exams. Exams for most Cambridge courses take place on two separate days (usually called Paper 1 and Paper 2), and if any portion of the exam is missed, Cambridge will not grade any part. For example, if you sit for Paper 1, but are absent for Paper 2, Cambridge will not score your Paper 1. LBHS pays for your exam in advance, so if you are not present during the exam times, you will be fined $125, to cover the cost of each missed exam. If AICE Global Perspectives is not completed in its entirety, the cost is $215; if AICE Digital Media & Design is incomplete, the cost is $64.85. Any student reapplying for the AICE Diploma will need to include a $150 fee to cover this cost.
Additional AICE Exam Request
Lemon Bay students have several options for taking exams. If a student takes an AICE exam in the spring and does not earn a passing score, they will have the option to retake the exam in the fall. Students may also take an exam for some courses without sitting for the class. Although this is not recommended, it is an option for students who are in their final year of the AICE Diploma and need additional credit for completion of the Diploma requirements. Deadlines to submit Exam Retakes and Exam First Entry applications are August (Fall testing) and February (Spring testing).

Lemon Bay High School and AICE
Lemon Bay High School introduced Cambridge courses through the AICE program four years ago. Since then, the program has developed into 17 course offerings, and is now graduating students with the AICE Diploma. In 2021, 10 students graduated with the AICE Diploma; in 2022, 22 students graduated with the AICE Diploma; in 2023, 80 students qualified for the AICE Diploma. Through this program, we are reaching students who never thought they would attend college.
Cambridge offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to their individual interests, abilities, and future plans within an international curriculum framework. Earning the AICE Diploma provides students with college credit for their courses and qualifies them for the Florida Academic Bright Futures Scholarship. Today, we have over 400 students enrolled in at least one Cambridge class and over 100 students pursuing the AICE Diploma. Many of those students are challenging themselves by completing both an AICE Diploma and AP Scholars recognition.
All AICE teachers at Lemon Bay are trained by Cambridge International and have some of the highest pass rates in Charlotte County.
In an effort to support the Cambridge community of learners and to encourage AICE Diploma candidates to attend higher education, Lemon Bay High School will accept private candidates during our exam schedule. We ask that you review our course offerings to make sure they will meet your exam needs. At this point, we do not have the resources to order exams for private candidates that do not match our current course offerings. As a private candidate, it is your responsibility to cover the cost of each exam you will take.
Please email our AICE Coordinator, Paige Beamesderfer, if you have any questions: paige.beamesderfer@yourcharlotteschools.net.

Exam day arrival
Candidates should arrive at their testing room when instructed. Morning exams could be scheduled as early as 7:10, giving invigilators time to take attendance and to distribute testing materials. Afternoon exams are typically scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM. Candidates taking afternoon exams should eat during “A” Lunch. Students who arrive after testing has begun will not be permitted to enter the exam room and will not test. Cambridge does not offer make up exams. Any student missing an exam will be required to reimburse LBHS for the cost of the exam. The next opportunity for testing will be the next exam series (the following November or June). The candidate must pay the exam fee for retake exams.
After testing:
Candidates may not leave the testing room until after the full testing time has elapsed, even if they finish early. Candidates must not remove any question papers or question paper content from the exam room. This includes writing questions on statements of entry, typing question content into calculators, etc. This is not a complete list. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

AICE Travel & Tourism
This course will enable students to develop:
• understanding of the changing nature of travel and tourism and its importance:
– to destinations
– to communities
– to the environment and the economy, globally, nationally and locally
• understanding of the importance of sustainability in travel and tourism development
• appreciation of the importance of the customer in the travel and tourism industry
• communication, problem-solving and planning skills
• understanding of the importance of marketing and destination management in travel and tourism development
• their own values and attitudes in relation to travel and tourism.
Paper 2 Planning and Managing a Travel and Tourism Event Requirements:
The coursework component allows for practical, vocationally relevant skills to be developed and demonstrated by candidates. It steers the direction of learning to focus on localised examples. By assessing practical and vocationally specific skills, it contributes to candidates’ lifelong learning to the full benefit of university study and working in the industry, such as developing critical thinking, independent research, communication, leadership and time management skills.
The coursework enables candidates to understand the context of their learning within the wider world, i.e. takes their learning beyond the classroom and allows them to be practically engaged using skills and applying knowledge for a specific purpose. Evaluating and assessing the success or failure of the final event provides opportunities for self-reflection and gives a clear understanding of working within the constraints of teams, time frames and costings.
